Cane Toads

Cane toads were introduced to Florida in the 1930s for pest control. Since then, they have spread rapidly and established populations throughout the state. They compete with native wildlife for food and habitat. Their voracious appetite and high reproductive rate contribute to declining populations of native species. They secrete toxins from their parotoid glands, which can be lethal to pets, such as dogs and cats, if ingested. This poses a significant risk to domestic animals and can lead to serious health issues or death.
